Fragmentation
Inspired by architectural and geometric forms, this installation aims to explore alternative ways to articulate and reinterpret the circular form: from a complete circle to its deconstructed segments. It is also an exploration on the subject of memory. The individual pieces represent fragments of memories that we have, the sum of which form a collective memory. The gold lustre lines on select pieces represent a marker in space and time. Ceramic is a medium that inherently produces many unexpected outcomes. Similar to how memories are created, its irregularity gives uniqueness to each piece, allowing us an opportunity to appreciate the imperfection that happens along the process.
Medium: ceramic, glazes, gold lustre
Inspired by architectural and geometric forms in Minimalist and Post-Minimalist art, I aimed to create an installation in which I explore different ways to articulate and reinterpret the circular form: from a complete circle to its deconstruction into segments. On a cerebral level, it is an exploration on the subject of memory. The individual pieces represent the fragments of memories that we have, where they form to create a collective memory. The gold lustre lines on selected pieces are representative of a marker in time and space in our memory.
